Yesterday at work we installed ubuntu on a MacBook Pro. We were happy to discover that the thing we attempted was done by more people because there was even a default option for what we wanted to do:

'Replace Mac OS X with Ubuntu'

After installation we noticed that only the airport was not working. When we installed the system we used a fixed cable connection to the internet for updates. But after a reboot we discovered the broadcom driver of the airport wasn't working correctly.

Worse enabling the driver failed when using System Settings -> Additional Drivers.

The problem turned out to be the kernel version of the Ubuntu 12.04 was too new for the broadcom wireless driver. By following the steps outlined HERE however we were quickly able to install the patched driver and have a working wireless connection.
